Box truck dispatch for 26 ft trucks that need to earn their payment

A 26 ft box truck is often the first truck an owner buys, and the payment starts before the freight does. Our box truck dispatchers find the loads, negotiate the rate and handle the broker calls. You pick which loads the truck hauls.

26 ft+

The only box trucks we dispatch. Nothing shorter, no cargo vans, no sprinters. That focus is why we can book a 26-footer well.

How many box truck loads cover the payment?

Five EXAMPLE loads for a 26 ft box truck: a partial, a final-mile run, an expedited load, a dock-to-dock move and a white-glove delivery. Take or turn down each one and watch the bar. The payment and fixed costs come from My Deal, so change them to match your truck.

EXAMPLE loads and payment, not offers or market quotes. Fee 5% of gross load revenue; no haul, no pay.

Short runs pay more per mile and less per load, and a week of them can still leave the payment short. That is why a box truck dispatcher plans the whole week, not one load at a time. Check any single offer with the rate per mile calculator.

Why we only take box trucks 26 ft and longer

A 26 ft box truck can take a full floor of pallets, usually 10 to 12 standard pallets depending on the box and the liftgate. That opens freight a shorter truck cannot touch: full partials for distribution centers, furniture and appliance runs, and retail replenishment. It is the size brokers ask for when they post a straight truck load.

It also sits on the right side of the CDL line. A typical 26,000 lb GVWR box truck is under the 26,001 lb threshold in 49 CFR 383.5, so many owners drive it without a CDL. Check the GVWR on your door sticker: a truck rated 26,001 lb or more does need one, and the freight we look for changes with it.

Non-CDL does not mean unregulated. A for-hire box truck over 10,001 lb crossing state lines still needs a USDOT number, operating authority, insurance on file and a driver medical card. We check all of it before the first load so a broker never turns you away at the packet.

Box truck freight we book

The freight that keeps a 26-footer busy is regional and quick to turn. These are the load types our straight truck dispatch service books most:

  • Partials and LTL-style runs out of distribution centers, often two or three stops
  • Final-mile deliveries for furniture, appliances and building materials, with or without a liftgate
  • Expedited freight where a box truck beats a 53 ft trailer on speed
  • Retail and store replenishment on set weekly lanes
  • White-glove moves where the receiver wants the load carried in and set

What a box truck load pays, and what moves it

There is no reliable public index for straight truck rates the way there is for 53 ft vans, so we do not print a national number here. We price each box truck load from what it asks of the truck. These are the lines our box truck dispatcher negotiates on every offer:

Line on the loadWhat we push for
LinehaulA rate that works per mile and per hour, since short runs eat the day
Extra stopsA stop-off charge for every drop after the first
LiftgatePay for the liftgate when the receiver has no dock
Inside or residential deliveryA set charge agreed before booking, not after
DetentionClock start time and hourly rate written into the rate con
Layover or TONUPay if the load is cancelled or held overnight

On the first call we check current offers out of your home base and tell you what they pay today.

Buying or leasing a 26 ft box truck?

If the truck is not bought yet, compare paying cash, a loan, a lease and a lease-purchase on the same truck. Every number is an editable EXAMPLE, never an offer. Run the payment through the semi truck payment calculator before you sign anything, then come back and see how many loads it takes.

  1. 1Dispatcher finds and negotiates
  2. 2Broker sends the rate con to you
  3. 3You sign it, or you say no

Box truck brokers move fast and some push hard for an answer. We do the pushing on rate and stops, then bring you the load. If you say yes, the broker sends the rate con to your email in your company name, and you sign it.

If you say no, we keep looking. There is no quota, no forced dispatch and no penalty for passing on a two-stop partial that pays like one stop.

What box truck dispatch costs

The fee is the same for a box truck as for any other rig: 7% of gross while your MC is under 6 months, 5% for one truck after that, and 4% once you run two or more trucks. It drops on its own in month 7.

No setup fee, no monthly minimum and no long contract. If the truck sits, you pay nothing. Every line is spelled out on the pricing page.

  • 7%MC under 6 months, any fleet size
  • 5%1 truck, MC 6+ months
  • 4%2+ trucks on one MC, MC 6+ months
  • Of gross load revenue. No setup fee, no minimums, month-to-month, 30 days notice, no haul no pay.

What box truck owners ask before they sign up

I can find my own box truck loads. Why pay a dispatcher?

Some owners do fine alone. The trade is time: hours on the board and on the phone that could be spent driving or at home. We also push back on rates, which matters most on short runs where a few dollars per stop is the whole margin.

Will you send me on loads that do not fit my box?

No. Before we offer a load we confirm the pallet count, the weight, whether a liftgate is needed and whether the receiver has a dock. If any of that is unclear, we ask the broker first and tell you what we found.

My MC is brand new. Will brokers load me?

Fewer will in the first months, and we say so up front. We work the brokers who take new box truck carriers and get your packets ready so the ones who will load you can do it quickly.

Box truck dispatch questions

How much does box truck dispatch cost?
7% of gross load revenue while your MC is under 6 months, then 5% for one truck or 4% for two or more trucks on one MC. The fee applies only to loads you haul. There is no setup fee and no long contract, and you can cancel with 30 days notice.
How many loads cover a box truck payment?
It depends on the payment, your other fixed costs and what each load pays after the fee. Put your numbers into Payment Week above and it will show loads per month. As a habit, we plan the week so the payment is covered by Wednesday and the rest of the week builds your margin.
How much can a box truck make per week?
There is no honest single number. Weekly gross for a 26 ft box truck swings with the lanes, the season, the number of stops and how many days you run. We will not quote a figure to win you over. On the first call we look at your home base and tell you what current loads there pay.
Can you dispatch a new MC box truck?
Yes. New authorities pay 7% for the first 6 months, then the rate drops automatically. Some brokers want a few months of history first, so we focus on the ones who load new carriers and keep your carrier packets clean so approvals move faster.
Do I have to take the loads you find?
No. We bring each load to you with the pickup, the drop, the weight and the pay, so you can check it fits the box before anything is booked. If you want it, the broker emails the rate con made out to your company name. You sign it or you pass, and passing costs you nothing. We never sign for you.
Do you dispatch cargo vans or box trucks under 26 ft?
No. We dispatch box trucks 26 ft and longer only, and no cargo vans or sprinters. Shorter trucks run a different kind of freight with different brokers, and we would rather say so now than take a fee for loads we cannot find for you.
Do I need a CDL for a 26 ft box truck?
Usually not, if the truck is rated 26,000 lb GVWR or less, because the CDL line in 49 CFR 383.5 starts at 26,001 lb. Check the rating on your door sticker. You still need a medical card and your own authority to haul for hire across state lines.
